Terms of Service
Last updated: October 2026
Agreement
By creating a PactTax account or using our services, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the service.
The service
PactTax helps you import bank transactions, classify income and expenses, estimate tax, and submit quarterly updates to HMRC under Making Tax Digital. We provide software tools — we are not a substitute for professional tax advice.
Subscriptions & trials
Your first filing to HMRC is on us. We do not ask for card details before it, and nothing is charged automatically when a trial ends — you subscribe deliberately, at checkout, or not at all.
Paid plans are billed yearly by default, at £120 a year for Standard, or monthly at £12 a month if you choose that at checkout. Prices include VAT. A paid plan renews automatically at the end of each billing period until you cancel, and you can cancel at any time from your billing settings. Cancelling confirms the date access ends and that the period already paid for is not refunded. A download of your records is offered at the same time.
List prices are locked for at least 12 months from the day you subscribe. We give at least 60 days' notice before a price change, and we do not raise the price during a period you have already paid for.
Your responsibilities
You are responsible for:
- Keeping your login credentials secure
- Reviewing classifications before submission to HMRC
- Ensuring information you provide is accurate and complete
PAM, our AI assistant
PAM is an AI assistant. It gives general guidance about PactTax, your figures and HMRC's published guidance. It is not tax, legal or accounting advice, and it can be wrong: check what it tells you, and speak to a qualified accountant or tax adviser about anything complex.
PAM prepares things only for you to check. When you approve something it prepared (an invoice, a bill, categories, a payment reminder), you are doing it yourself, as if you had done it on its own page. When you file a return it prepared, you check the figures and make HMRC's declaration yourself. You remain responsible for making sure your tax returns are accurate and complete, and for what you file.
PAM sees only what your role in a business lets you see, and how it uses your data is set out in our privacy policy. How much you can ask PAM depends on your plan. You must not use PAM to try to reach data you are not allowed to see, or to get round its safeguards.
Liability
To the extent permitted by law, PactTax is not liable for indirect or consequential losses arising from use of the service. Our total liability is limited to fees paid in the twelve months before a claim.
